A few of my favorite things… right now. I share these as life’s little pleasures. Most of my life is spent shepherding children so when I find a few things that make me laugh or breathe deep I like to share.

Playing House. Dear LAWD, if you have not seen this show go ahead and add it to the queue. I haven’t laughed this hard in forever. Thank you, USA Network for your fine and dandy work of putting this masterpiece on the air. Well done. I had yet to be entertained by the duo of Lennon Parham and Jessica St Clair until Playing House and boy was I missing out. These two put on one heck of a show.

Everything You Ever Wanted. This book made me laugh, cry, breathe deep, and remind me why I care about what I do. Jillian Lauren’s honest account of wanting a baby and processing through the adoption, and post adoption struggles had my heart leaping out of my chest. I hadn’t felt this moved since I had first discovered Anne Lamott forever ago. This ranks as one of the best books I have ever read. Painstakingly honest, fiercely brave, and undoubtedly hopeful, that’s who Jillian is.

Salmon dip and rosemary crackers from Trader Joes. After the babies are in bed it’s not uncommon for Derek and I to settle in for the night with some yummies and this one is my favorite. “Salmon dip and rosemary crisps, why I didn’t realize sooner? I’m so sorry for all the years we wasted not getting cozy in the evening time. I won’t go on like that, ignoring you on the shelves of my local Trader Joes like you mean nothing to me. I won’t. I can’t. You are mine.”

Black felt hat. This gem my sweet husband picked up at Old Navy, since apparently that’s my jam now. I’ve had my eye on one for all the right reasons, mainly not having to really do my hair and plop a big brimmed hat atop my head and feel fresh about the whole situation. I’ve donned it to many occasions and will continue to do so. It’s saved me from hair-tastrophe approximately 7 billion times already.
