Struggling with the election
Are you struggling with fear during this seemingly never-ending election season? I have at times. As I’ve committed this fear to prayer I’ve been reminded of something good. Something sacred. Something true.
May it be clear and evident to others how desperately we need Jesus. May this be so plain for our children. Our co-workers. Our friends. The world that watches us. In these days and the days to come, may they see our adequacy and goodness rooted in Jesus.
We cannot take much more of an election that has highlighted every divide, every fear, every opposition. May our love for the Father dictate how we see the world, how we see others so different than ourselves. How we see the opposite sex, those of a different skin tone, those of a different religion, and those with a different story. We are not the same. We know that. Let us NEVER judge another for their story, their color, their religion, and their experience. Rather, let us love those so different than ourselves. They will not steal or take what matters most. Our sufficiency in Christ.
In a time that we may feel fearful, may we let Love play the lead role in our lives. Let us invite the Love that is unshakable. Immovable. We may vote or voice what we want but let us never forget who sits on the throne. Who reigns supreme. Who, with power and grace, calls us forward as image bearers to a broken nation. A nation, just like any other, that is stained with injustice, hate, and loss.
May we be hungry for His love, His intervention, His hand, His resolution as we extend a hand to those around us who need it most, our neighbor. Our physical and proverbial neighbor. We cannot do this one on our own. May kindness and peace inhabit our hearts, our homes, our conversations, and our comments. We cannot do that without Love. Without His comfort. Without His Holy Spirit. We are free to BE when we call on Love. Only then do we dance in the fullness of joy and invite others into the sweet melody of freedom. True freedom.
