For real, I have a five year old. Time has flown by since we became a family when he was 2 1/2 and it’s been so sweet. I wouldn’t trade it for the world and I am overjoyed we made the choice to adopt first. For those considering adopting before having biological kids, one of my favorites Kristen Howerton of Rage Against the Minivan wrote a great piece about it.

He is pure joy with a little sass thrown in for good measure. He’s up every morning before everyone else to declare a “good morning!” He is crazy in love with books, George Pig, his baby brother, dancing, and preschool. He’s convinced that since he’s five he can carry heavy boxes and have cookies every night.

He is pure sunshine and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see what Jesus will do in this precious boy. As he’s discovered who Jesus is he’s come with honest questions of why we are together in America, why he’s not with his tummy mama, and why do babies in other countries go without food. When you are once orphaned the hard questions come fast. Together we’ve cried over the broken moments in our stories and the stories of others. We’ve journeyed together through the scriptures that speak truth, comfort, and redemption over his young soul. His story is just beginning with many twists and turns to come, and I’m honored to lift him up as he stands strong and courageous, a mighty warrior.
